As a young journalism student at the University of Puerto Rico, he was a pioneer of the island’s underground punk-rock scene. Armed with his trusty drum machine and adopting the nom de plume Xocé Román, he founded Descojón Urbano, heavily influenced by the industrial sounds of Ministry and Wax Trax records. He was also a founding member of Burning Face, Puerto Rico’s first goth band. As the 90s progressed, he was also involved in the burgeoning electronic music scene, founding the Antártica project. He now resides in Southern California, where he continues to produce music under the name O.P.A.L.
